| St. Christopher's Church |
Part of the parish of St. Philip’s and St. James’ Church in The Park, St. Christopher’s Church is a modern structure situated in the heart of Warden Hill. In 1959 the Rev Ettrick Eynon, then a new vicar at St. Philip’s and St. James’, was given permission from Bishop of Gloucester to create a church in the newly built Warden Hill residential area. The church came to life due to his enthusiasm, as well as great efforts of many local residents, some of which are now commemorated in the church.
The original concept was to build quite a magnificent gothic church in the style of St. Philip’s and St. James’ with a tall spire, however more moderate building was built to suit the dual purpose of a church and a village hall. When J. A. Pye, who is responsible for building Warden Hill estate, moved their equipment from the area having finished the project, they donated the site for the church building. Beautiful stained glass windows were designed by Thomas Denny, D. A. Edin., who started the project in 1985 and the last window was completed in 1995. |
