| The Brewery leisure complex |
The Brewery is the newest addition to Cheltenham's leisure and shopping experience. The 200,000 square feet retail and leisure centre opened in May 2006 on the site of a former brewery which was there already in 1760, when John Gardner, a banker, started his brewhouse here in the High Street.
It was not until 1888 that the brewing firm was registered as a company, taking the name Cheltenham Original Brewery. In 1897 the site wittnessed a disastrous fire and the massive buildings which were built afterwards are still part of the newly built complex.
Today visitors can enjoy eating out in one of the many restaurants - The Brewery features several restaurants, including Portuguese, Mexican, Italian and Chinese restaurants as well as cafes - or watching a film in 11-screen multiplex cinema Cineworld, playing bingo, or exercising in a fitness centre. GLOSCAT doit centre.
With 356 spaces, the NCP multi-storey car park directly opposite the main entrance to The Brewery has the very latest pay on foot technology. In addition, there are in excess of 1000 car parking spaces within a few minutes walk of The Brewery.
