Neil Parish was born in 1956. He was first elected MEP for the South West region in 1999. He is a member of the Delegation for relations with Australia and New Zealand. He is also a member of the Conference of Delegation Chairmen, Committee on Agriculture and Rural Development and Committee of Inquiry into the collapse of the Equitable Life Assurance Society.
The Agriculture and Rural Development Committee
is responsible for:
(a) the operation and development of the common agricultural policy;
(b) rural development, including the activities of the relevant financial instruments;
(c) legislation on:
veterinary and plant-health matters, animal feedingstuffs provided such measures are not intended to protect against risks to human health and animal husbandry and welfare;
(d) the improvement of the quality of agricultural products;
(e) supplies of agricultural raw materials;
(f) the Community Plant Variety Office;
(g) forestry.
