Giles Chichester was born on 29th July 1946 in North Devon. He has been a member of the European Parliament for the South West 1999-2004 and 2004-to date. He is a member of Committee on Industry, Research and Energy. He is also a member of Conference of Committee Chairmen and Delegation for relations with Australia and New Zealand .
The Committee on Industry, Research and Energy is responsible for:
(a) the Union's industrial policy and the application of new technologies, including measures relating to SMEs;
(b) the Union's research policy, including the dissemination and exploitation of research findings;
(c) space policy;
(d) the activities of the Joint Research Centre and the Central Office for Nuclear Measurements, as well as JET, ITER and other projects in the same area;
(e) Community measures relating to energy policy in general, the security of energy supply and energy efficiency including the establishment and development of trans-European networks in the energy infrastructure sector;
(f)
the Euratom Treaty and Euratom Supply Agency; nuclear safety, decommissioning and waste disposal in the nuclear sector;
(g)
the information society and information technology, including the establishment and development of trans-European networks in the telecommunication infrastructure sector.
