THE MOST PICTURESQUE VILLAGE IN ENGLAND
Bourton-on-the-Water lies 15 miles to the east of Cheltenham. The river Windrush meanders through the village and with its 18th century pedestrian bridges creates a picturesque idyll. Bourton deservedly acquired the name “The Venice of the Cotswold” and many a time it was voted as the most beautiful village in England. Tourists from all over the world come to see Bourton’s Cotswold stone buildings and cottages and to buy gifts for their loved ones at home in one of the many Bourton’s gift shops.
THINGS TO DO
There is not only plenty to see in Bourton, but also plenty to do. The Motoring Museum offers visitors an insight into the beginnings of motoring in the early 20th century. Children can enjoy a ride through the village in a vintage car. In the Birdland visitors can find a remarkable collection of exotic birds, ranging from penguins, parrots to toucans.
Model Village is a miniature model of Bourton using authentic building materials depicting Bourton-on-the-Water as it was in 1937. To be as authentic as possible it includes a model of the model village itself. Other attractions include dragonfly maze, model railway and perfume factory which stages a Perfumery Exhibition about the origins of the perfume.
