Carmen began playing straight forward 'Power Trio' heavy rock, with nothing more than Vocals, Guitar, Bass and Drums. In those days they were backed by a drummer called Danny B. He went to Uni, so for a time Ash drummed. After that he talented guitarist/drummer Nick gave beats at Carmen gigs. As Nick's part in the band came to an end, the band were already experimenting with using strings, piano's and all sorts of polyphony. The hard part was producing it live, the drummer would have to play to a metronome. So the man known as 'M.' agreed to take Carmen to a new power of sound. Carmen keep their original power rock roots, but mix giant sounding String sections, Pianos/Keyboards and many other orchestral and electronic sounds together to create beautiful, passionate, emotional and of course heavy pieces of music.
