The Paws in the Park event in Leckhampton was first held in 2004. It was a huge success and the following events attracted over 1,000 people and more than 200 dogs registered for competitions, which include such entertaining categories as Waggiest Tail, Best Six Legs, Best Trick, Dressed to Impress, Best Condition, Best Rescue Dog, Golden Oldie and Most Appealing Eyes. Dog Scurry is available for £1 a go which goes to Cheltenham Animal Shelter.

A regional heat of Scruffts (family crossbreed of the year) is held and the winner of each class goes to the national finals in London. Visitors can watch the dog display, browse through stalls and enjoy the day's atmosphere. This action-packed day with fun and games raises money for local charities.
2006 event, organised by Council's Community Ranger Service, raised over £1,100. Special guest and judge was Steve Kitchen from BBC Radio Gloucestershire with Archie the naughty terrier. The Gamegoer Gundog Display with their wonderful displays with gundogs, ferrets and hawks entertained the audience. Children could enjoy puppetry tales from Poppets Peculiar Petshop Show, facepainting, a coconut shy, tombolas, t-shirts, a treasure hunt, raffles, and much more.
Unfortunately, 2007 Paws in the Park was cancelled due to bad weather and sever floods in Gloucestershire at the end of July. In 2008 the crowds were entertained by The Essex Dog Display Team, Poppet's Peculiar Petshop Puppet Show and Philip, the dog who won Best in Show at Crufts 2008, also made an appearance. 2009 brought to Leckhampton Cotswold Heelwork to Music, who performed great dance routines with their dogs Tamar and River. TV Vet Marc Abraham was the celebrity judge of the novelty classes and dog behaviourist Amy Hatcher was on hand to give help and advice.
