LOOK AND FEEL
Legacy 6.0 Deluxe has an intuitive, easy to use interface with several views available on tabbed menu at the top of the screen - family, pedigree, descendants views, chronology and alphabetical index.
When double-clicking on the main individual (not children), the Individual Information Screen comes up where you can add new facts relating to the individual. Unlike in other genealogy software this screen can be enlarged to the full view which makes it easier to fill out. You can also attach photos to individual events so you can make use of your scanned certificates and census images.
IMPORT CAPABILITIES
To start your genealogy file with Legacy you have to create a new Legacy file, into which you can add individuals, or you can directly import from your Personal Ancestral File (version 2+), or Ancestral Quest File. You'll have to use Legacy's GEDCOM import capability if you used any other software.

FEATURES
Legacy has a large variety of report options, including all of the expected standard charts, however, its narrative report is not as good as Rootsmagic's and all charts and reports are somehow basic. If you want fancy charts and family trees you have to purchase Progeny Software's Legacy Charting Companion add-on program. Legacy can translate the reports into several languages which can be helpful if you share data with people who are not native English speakers. Another plus point of Legacy is its ability to flexible merge making it easy to add other files without impacting database integrity. If you work together with your fellow researchers Legacy has an extra bonus - IntelliShare allows groups to coordinate their work and stay caught up on each other's changes.
SHARING YOUR WORK
Legacy can also generate web sites automatically from your data. You can either create a page for every individual in your file, or select a focus group by adding individuals, families or entire family line. The pages can be customized with your own background, dividers, introductory text etc. The resulting website is not as easy to navigate and not as good looking as one created by Rootsmagic, however for someone who wants a solid and simple way of sharing family history research online it is more than adequate.
PRICE
Great plus point of Legacy is that its Standard Version which includes most of the important features, including website creation, is free to download. The Deluxe version costs £38.50.
