Craft Morning - Springbank Community Resource Centre

Tubby Blues Festival

The Tubby Blues Show takes place at Newlands Park Club in Bishop's Cleeve. Bands booked to play include The Innes Sibun Band and The Crisis Blues Band. Gloucestershire blues performer Otis Mack will compere the show. Tickets cost £10 each. Tables can be reserved by calling 01242 691998 or 07796 034206. Doors open at 7pm and the show will run from 8.25pm to midnight.

 

Off The Cuff - The Wheatsheaf Inn

The Offstage Theatre Company presents Off The Cuff - a version of the famous improvization show Whose Line Is It Anyway? The show starts at 8pm, tickets cost £5, available on the door.

Stranger Song Festival - The Frog & Fiddle

Stranger Song is a not-for-profit festivalette, taking place over one day in the Barn at The Frog & Fiddle. Open Day at Gloucestershire County Association for the Blind

Gloucestershire County Association for the Blind are inviting the public to celebrate 150 years of their charity by holding an open day at their resource centre at 81 Albion Street, Cheltenham. On Saturday 6th September from 11am - 3pm their staff will be on hand to answer any questions and to demostrate the aids they have on sale. All Welcome.

 

 

 SUNDAY, 7 SEPTEMBER 2008

All Age Service - St. Aidan's Church

A Sunday service for all the family lasting about 50 minutes with Peter Cooper & family, children’s entertainer. With magic, puppets, bell ringing and loads of fun will be held in St. Aidan's Church, Coronation Square, from 10.30am.

 

CSME Train Rides - Hatherley Lane

Cheltenham Society of Model Engineering opens its grounds to the general public between 2 pm and 5 pm for Steam or Diesel locomotive hauled Train Rides. Model Boats will be on the lake and refreshments will be available. Entrance is free. The grounds are situated in Hatherley Lane, near Cheltenham Film Studios.

 

Pink Car Rally - Promenade

The Pink Car Rally is being held to raise awareness of the Little Princess Trust charity. It will leave Hereford Hospital at 10.30am and should reach Cheltenham Promenade around 1pm, where it will stop for 30 mins for a Street Collection, in aid of the Little Princess Trust. If you have a pink car, why not join the Rally? Otherwise do come along to see the array of pink vehicles. Heritage Open Days

Heritage Open Days are a series of annual national events co-ordinated nationally by the Civic Trust and supported by the Department of Culture Media and Sport and English Heritage, to promote an interest in our cultural, historic or architectural heritage by allowing free public access to buildings of interest that are usually closed to the public or normally charge for admission. Cheltenham Synagogue will be opened on Sunday from 11am to 6pm, Parmoor House will be opened Saturday & Sunday from 11am to 4pm, Cheltenham Ladies' College will be opened on Friday and Saturday, however pre-booking is required. Gustav Holst Museum is open from 10.00am to 4.00pm with musical interludes throughout the day.

There will also be guided heritage walks around Cheltenham. Friday - Historic Parks & Gardens: a walk around the former ‘pleasure grounds’ of the spa, whose award-winning displays contribute so much to this ‘town within a park’; Sunday - Famous Connections: a special walk around places in the centre of Cheltenham where a green or blue plaque commemorates famous people or events who have contributed to the town’s cosmopolitan atmosphere. Friday 12th September: 11am and Sunday 14th September 10.30am. Pre-booking required.

Howlers Comedy Club - The Wheatsheaf Inn

Each month Howlers Comedy Club brings you the very best in stand-up comedy from the UK and beyond. With great sound and light from DJ's FAB plus a late bar, 'Howlers At The Venue' is a Saturday night out in Cheltenham that you will not want to miss. Trash Money + Men Daimler - Xposed Club, Pittville Studios

The Xposed Club will kick off the new term with a gig in September, featuring Trash Money, who started the Xposed Club's last year season. Trash Money was formed by Joe Wilson, course leader of the popular music degree and former member of the band Sneaker Pimps. Their first album, Trash Money was released in 2006 and is an eclectic range of rock, electro, punk and disco tracks with a nostalgic twist. Fans of the band include Lauren Laverne, The Mighty Boosh and Alan McGee. The concert, which starts at 8pm, is free for Freshers and Foundation students, for other students tickets cost £3, staff and public £5.

Sue Ryder Care Midnight Walk

First ever ladies only Midnight Walk in aid of Sue Ryder Care - Leckhampton Court Hospice will take place on Saturday 20th September 2008. The 10 mile paved, lit and marshalled route around Cheltenham will be a fun night out and help raise vital funds for the hospice. Entry is £12 and each walker will receive a T-shirt, sponsorship form, special goody bag, medal and well-deserved breakfast at the finish line. Walk in memory of a friend or relative, to keep fit or simply as a way of doing something a bit different with your friends on a Saturday night.

 

Holst Birthday Concert - All Saints' Church

To celebrate Gustav Holst birthday, The Friends of The Holst Birthplace Museum have organised a concert, which will be held at 7.00pm at All Saints Church, Cheltenham. Tickets £15 (Friends of the HMB £12).

 

Tour and Talk - Sandford Park Lido

Tour around Sandford Park Lido provides an insight into the heritage and history of the Lido and will conclude with the opportunity to swim. The prices for the tours are £4.50 for adults, £2.90 for concessions or £1.50 for a season ticket holder; charges include the swim at the end of the tour. Places must be pre-booked as numbers are limited.

 

Prescott Challenge - Prescott Hill

Prescott Challenge is a fantastic, fun-filled opportunity for you to tackle the famous Prescott Hill racing circuit in support of your favourite charity. On Saturday 20th September, the circuit – home of Bugatti racing – will, for once, be completely car-free. Instead, the steep, 1.2km track will be open to runners, walkers and cyclists of all ages and abilities in a thrilling multi-challenge event!

Cheltenham Leisure Centre Fun Day

Cheltenham Leisure Centre will be hosting a fun day packed with free live entertainment and events on Saturday, 27 September, to mark the start of the four year Cultural Olympiad. There will be music, dance displays, jugglers, swimming and face painting and many more free activities happening on the day. Indoor and outdoor displays will include tango dancing and Capoeira, a Brazilian dance. Stilt walkers, ‘Notional Trust’ guides, the Music Man and Mr Dennis Teeth with his ‘musical saw’ will provide outdoor entertainment throughout the day. With a number of workshops, families can have a go at kite making, wall climbing and learn to DJ. Sporting activities will include badminton, football, basketball, gymnastics, athletics and free swimming. An outdoor stage to the rear of the leisure centre will host live music, including The Gecks and Peter Gill & Friends. The Star Radio team will be broadcasting live from the event.

Cheltenham Triathlon - Sandford Park Lido

The purpose of Cheltenham Triathlon is to raise funds for LINC (Leukaemia Intensive Chemotherapy) and Sandford Lido. The event is open to all abilities of competitors, over the age of 17 who enjoy a personal or team challenge. The swim is undertaken in the Lido's 50 metre outdoor swimming pool (10 lengths). The run and cycle are around Cheltenham and the picturesque Cotswold hills.

 

Jam Jazz - The Wheatsheaf Inn

Last Sunday of every month is devoted to Jazz Jam at the Venue Jazz Club at Wheatsheaf Inn, Old Bath Road, Leckhampton. The best local jazz musicians just chill out, get together and jam with the 'Venue Jazz Trio'. Doors will be opening at 8pm, music will start at 8.30pm. Tickets cost £3, but the first evening on 28 September is free, so come along and play or just listen - the perfect way to end any weekend.

Cobalt Appeal ‘New York New York!’ Coffee Morning - Express by Holiday Inn

‘New York New York!’ themed coffee morning with a ‘New York New York’ style BBQ Buffet in aid of the Cobalt Breast Clinic £1m Appeal Fund is held in Express by Holiday Inn on 30 September from 11am to 3pm . The coffee morning offers Cappuccino & a cake for £3.50 and a New York BBQ Buffet for just £6.50 per head.
