Tubby Blues Festival

The Tubby Blues Show takes place at Newlands Park Club in Bishop's Cleeve. Bands booked to play include The Rogue Dolls and Jay Tamkin & The Crackers. Gloucestershire blues performer Otis Mack will compere the show. Tickets cost £10 each. Tables can be reserved by calling 01242 691998 or 07796 034206. Doors open at 7pm and the show will run from 8.25pm to midnight.

 

Off The Cuff - The Wheatsheaf Inn

The Offstage Theatre Company presents Off The Cuff - a version of the famous improvization show Whose Line Is It Anyway? The show starts at 8pm, tickets cost £5, available on the door.

Henry Moore: Surrealism and Beyond - Cheltenham Art Gallery

Each month Howlers Comedy Club brings you the very best in stand-up comedy from the UK and beyond. With great sound and light from DJ's FAB plus a late bar, 'Howlers At The Venue' is a Saturday night out in Cheltenham that you will not want to miss. This time Howler's Comedy Club brings Jarred Christmas and Gareth Richards. Shows run from 7.30pm until late at 'The Venue', The Wheatsheaf Inn, Leckhampton. Admission: £10. Steam and Vintage Rally - Cheltenham Racecourse

Taking place over the weekend of 11 and 12 October, the GWR Steam and Vintage Rally has abundant attractions for all the family. There will be traction engines, showman's engines and steam engines; classic cars, buses and motorcycles; vintage lorries, tractors and a fun fair; military vehicles, emergency vehicles and caravans. The main arena will host non-stop demonstrations and parades and there will be ploughing, stonemasonry and farriery. In addition, the GWR Steam and Vintage Rally will have craft and trade stalls, a model tent and a refreshments marquee. Visitors can even arrive at and depart from the rally by steam train, as the Gloucestershire Warwickshire Railway (GWR) will be operating a steam service departing from and returning to Toddington.

Vamos Youth Theatre - Cleeve Sports and Arts Centre

Vamos Youth Theatre Gloucestershire is coming to Cleeve Sports and Arts Centre, Two Hedges Road, Bishop's Cleeve. Tuesday evenings in term time. Junior group 7-11years 5.30-6.45pm Senior Group 12-16years 7pm-8.30pm. Run by experienced drama practitioner Honor Benton. This youth theatre will be friendly and fun. You will learn new drama skills, have the chance to devise your own theatre as well as work on scripted work, plus there will be plenty of drama games thrown in for good measure! No experience is necessary, everyone is welcome. Cost £55 for 10 sessions

The Showcase Horse Racing - Cheltenham Racecourse

The Showcase offers a stunning start to the new season at Cheltenham Racecourse with a two day meeting. Seven races each day, with almost every category of horse catered for, will allow you to get some early season pointers for the forthcoming fixtures at Cheltenham and elsewhere. Plenty of stars of the 2007/08 season were on display at this meeting last year, including Knowhere, Joe Lively, Maljimar and Marodima. Tickets from £9. Gates open 11.30am, first race 2.20pm.

September Showcase - Playhouse Theatre

Clive's Easylearn Pop Music Schools present September Showcase - Pop classics and current chart toppers will be performed by members of this exciting and unique school, where children and adults can learn drums, bass, guitar, keyboards and vocals. Young bands will take to the stage and live the dream of pop stardom! Lessons are held every Saturday at St Luke's Church Hall. Start 7pm, tickets £4  (only on the door).

 

Citizens’ Day - Pittville Pump Room and Park

A Citizens' Day provides an opportunity to celebrate local achievements, to build and renew community cohesion, and to develop greater local engagement.

A free fun day to celebrate Citizen's Day in Cheltenham is being held at Pittville Pump Room and park on Sunday 19 October 2008. MP Martin Horwood, Deputy mayor, Cllr Lloyd Surgenor and Cheltenham Borough Council’s Chief Executive, Andrew North, will formally open the event at 12.30pm. From 11am to 4pm, a series of interesting and spectacular events will entertain visitors, from dance to story telling, music from local bands and a Wii room for good measure. Entrance is free and everyone is invited to come along.

The line up includes live music from Vince Freeman, Peter Gill and Friends and Explosive Nzakomba, as well as the Coady Crew, Chinese Lion dancing, capoeira, belly dancing, bangra dancing and a gamelan demonstration. Story tellers, insect man, a birds of prey demonstration, bouncy castles and circus skills provide just part of the entertainment for youngsters. Food and refreshments will be available throughout the day or bring a picnic.

 

Antonio Forcione, Jazz Guitar - The Cheltenham Chase Hotel, Brockworth

Roshi feat Pars Radio - Xposed Club, Pittville Studios

October's gig at the Xposed Club features Roshi feat Pars Radio with support from Gagarin. Roshi feat Pars Radio is a collaboration between the Iranian vocalist Roshi and sound artist Graham Dowdall but also features Classical/experimental cello from Rachel Threlfal, while Gagarin is Graham Dowdall's latest solo project. He has worked extensively with legendary artists like Nico and John Cale and recently Pere Ubu. Xposed Club is privileged to be able to present Dowdall performing work from his latest solo album of experimental electronica. It's definitely not to be missed event in Cheltenham's music calendar.

Autumn Fair - Sacred Hearts' Church Hall.

On October 25, Cheltenham Hospital League of Friends has an autumn fair at Sacred Hearts' Church Hall. Organisers would be grateful for any items you donate, however small. Stalls include silent auction, Christmas, bottle, books (only paperbacks), household, DVDs and CDs, puzzles, games and toys, bric-a-brac and gifts. No clothing, please. Craft Fair - St. Stephen's Church, Tivoli

Craft Fair is being held at St. Stephens Church, St. Stephen's Rd, Tivoli, Cheltenham on Saturday 25th October from 10am - 12noon. Pyrography, cards, fabric flowers, jewellery, wooden toys, spinning, cake stall etc pick up an unusual gift for Christmas.

Jam Jazz - The Wheatsheaf Inn

Last Sunday of every month is devoted to Jazz Jam at the Venue Jazz Club at Wheatsheaf Inn, Old Bath Road, Leckhampton. The best local jazz musicians just chill out, get together and jam with the 'Venue Jazz Trio'. Doors will be opening at 8pm, music will start at 8.30pm. Halloween Ghost Trains at Gloucestershire-Warwickshire Railway

New for 2008 is a Halloween Special which leaves Toddington Station at 7pm. There will be lots of excitement with witches and ghosts decending upon the railway - and it's well known that the tunnel is haunted!
