Cotswold Challenge - Round 12
Despite a change to 1/32 Production cars (or perhaps because of) the entries were fairly good throughout the year, with an understandable dip after Swindon lost their clubhouse, track and a lot of kit when they were the subject of an unsolved arson attack, wonderful police force we have!!
Reigning champion Dave Coward has led the series from start to finish, chased valiantly by Neil Callaghan & Rob Lees, whilst the battle for 4th to 7th were only decided at the December Double Header.
9 drivers appeared for the Dowty leg of the Double Header with Funky finishing last with a very sick motor car, behind Graham Fryer & Rocky. The battle of the juniors went to Noddy Lockey, who pipped James Davey for 5th. An inspired Mike Perkins battled up from the "D" Final to take 4th overall behind Neil, Dave & a hard charging Rob Harris.
Lunch was provided by Julia Coward, and very good it was too. Anyone not present does not know what they are missing by not attending our December Double Header, so make a note in your diaries for 2009.
A depleted entry of 6 made it to Marlborough for the final round on Rocky's portable track, two lane, three dimensional (Its got hills!!!), bumpy, tight and bloody good fun. DC again top qualified from Neil, Funky, track owner Rocky, Noddy & James.
Noddy again won the juniors battle and then went on to beat Rocky from the unfavoured blue lane, a superb achievement, but lost out to Funky in the next round. Funky was unable to repeat Noddy's actions, losing to Neil in the semis. DC then rounded out the year with another win, making it a maximum score for the year. The battle for the minor places was won by one point by Rocky, from Funky & Noddy tied on points, but going Funky's way on highest placings with Mike Perkins finishing 7th ahead of James after family commitments prevented him from taking part in the final round.
1st & 2nd got copies of Tony Condon's excellent book on the history of slot racing with Noddy picking up a new trophy as Junior Champion, a well deserved reward for his driving this year, and testament to his dad Johns car building skillls.
Calendar for 2009 will be published shortly, all welcome, see you next year.
Thanks to everyone who took part, lets have a few more next year, especially those that only entered one or two rounds, and I hope everyone has a very merry christmas.
