Cotswold Challenge - Round 8
Friday 19th September saw a return to action in the Cotswold Challenge with Swindon regulars Mike Perkins and Rob Lees being joined at Dowty's by Independent, Tony Condon and Marc Townsend another Swindon racer. Dowty's were represented by championship leader Dave Coward, along with Rob Harris, quick juniors Noddy Lockey & James Davey, together with Funky and Roger Townsend (no relation to Marc)! Main absentee was Neal Callaghan, away on marshalling duties.
Qualifying saw Rob Harris leading from Dave, but with move up finals no one was getting worked up. The "D" Final saw Tony Condon and Roger being eliminated after a hotly disputed race. After reliability problems in qualifying Rob Lees had to qualify from the "C" Final along with Dowty junior James, knocking out Swindon's Marc Townsend & Mike Perkins in the process. The "B" Final was one too many for Rocky whose Falcon sounded like an ailing chainsaw. The race went with the qualifying times, Noddy beating Funky on the overrun by 4" whilst Rocky & James frantically played "catch-up". The "A" Final therefore was an all Dowty affair with Rod Harris, Dave Coward, Noddy & Funky. The race was fairly mundane by CC standards with DC winning after Rob deslotted for the first time all evening, whilst Funky reversed qualifying finishing ahead of Noddy.
Next round, somewhere in the Swindon area in October!!!
