Dowty Slot Car Racing Club

The Dowty Christmas Fun Run was held on 19th December. Noddy was captain of Team Frosty Snowmen , James was Team Scrooge captain, Tom made the decisions for Team Rudolf and Dawn looked after Team Santa Claus. Their first decision was to pick their drivers. As most of them hadn’t driven a car before, and even more hadn’t raced on this track, it was a bit of a lottery.

As it turned out, Tom made the inspired decisions, while Dawn’s choice of three inexperienced ladies was maybe not quite the best. The racing was close from the start with only one lap between the first three after 9 minutes, but gradually Rudolf pulled away from Frosty, then Scrooge, and Santa bringing up the rear. After 8 segments there was a food break.

Feeling refreshed, Scrooge and Rudolf decided to play their Jokers, so Scrooge passed Frosty for 2nd. Santa still trailed even with the addition of a bonus 25 laps, which more than made up for the car breaking down in the 7th heat. Frosty took their Joker on the 13th segment and Noddy set the fastest joker time by 3 laps, but still trailed Rudolf by 13 laps. Santa played theirs on the next run, but still remained fourth.

The lead was extended over the remaining heats and Rudolf won by 23 laps. Frosty were 21 laps up on Scrooge with Santa a further 20 laps down. The Rudolf drivers were by far the most consistent, although Noddy did he fastest time of the day with 22 on yellow lane. Below is listed the times from the heats and drivers as far as I have them. Unfortunately I didn’t make a note of the drivers in the second half.

Thanks to everyone who brought food and no-one brought mince pies. I hope you enjoyed the racing. Our club nights are Friday from about 8 if anyone who wants to come again.
