THE RIVER CHELT
Sandford Park derives its name from the sandy soil and the old ford over the brook. The river Chelt meanders through the park which was the site where Barretts Mill, the largest of three mills on the river banks, was situated. The park was opened in 1927, designed by the fashionable landscape architect Milner White.

UNWINS FOUNTAIN
The main attraction of the park is the Unwins Fountain, with wonderful bedding displays. It was named after the Unwin family of Arle Court, now Cheltenham Film Studios. There is also an ornamental pond, rockery and the Friendship Circle, a set of shell-like sculptures. The park is home to a range of bird life and is well known for its friendly squirrels.
SANDFORD LIDO
Sandford Lido, the outdoor swimming pool adjoining Sandford Park, was opened in 1935 and even today provides excellent recreational facilities. It was designed by Gilbert Gould Marsland, Cheltenham borough surveyor in the years 1933-60, who also drew the plans for Whaddon and Hester's Way estates. In its vicinity, there is a children’s playground, which include cradle swings, springies, flat seat swings, a seesaw, roundabout and climbing units.
