Cheltenham Churches

 
ALL SAINTS' CHURCH

With its breath taking interiors All Saints Church is well worth a visit. Designed by John Middleton, in this church the composer Gustav Holst was a chorist there when he was a boy.

CHRIST CHURCH

Christ Church was built in the late 1830s to the design of the Jearrad brothers, the architects of Montpellier and Lansdown. Its spire is now one of the features of Cheltenham's townscape.

HOLY APOSTLES CHURCH

Built in 19th century by the architect John Middleton at the expense of Charles Cook Higgs, Holy Apostles Church is a fine neo-gothic building.

HOLY TRINITY CHURCH

Holy Trinity Church in Pittville is the first church to be built to supplement the parish church since the middle ages. It was designed by G. A. Underwood in the 1820s.

PRESTBURY UNITED REFORMED CHURCH

Founded in the 19th century as a congregational church for people of Prestbury of non-conformist faith, Prestbury URC has a thriving community.

ST. ANDREWS CHURCH

St. Andrew's Church was originally built for the Presbyterian congregation in Cheltenham. Today it is a United Reformed Church and a popular venue for Cheltenham festival events.

ST. CHRISTOPHER'S CHURCH

St. Christoper's Church which belongs into the parish of St. Philip's and St. James' in The Park was created in 1959 to serve the then new residential area of Warden Hill.

ST. LAWRENCE'S CHURCH

With its unusual hexagonal tower, dating back to the 12th century, the church of St. Lawrence is a number one landmark of Swindon Village.

ST. MARK'S CHURCH

Hidden away from the traffic of Gloucester Road, St. Mark's Church, which was built in the early 1860s by the architect John Middleton, offers an oasis of tranquillity.

ST. MARY'S PARISH CHURCH

Dedicated to St. Mary, Cheltenham parish church is the oldest church, as well as the oldest surviving medieval building in central Cheltenham, dating back to the Norman times. .

ST. MARY'S CHURCH, CHARLTON KINGS

St. Mary's Church was built in the late 12th century. It is a lovely medieval building and houses many historical artefacts, such as a chest dating back to the Third Crusade.

ST. MARY'S CHURCH, PRESTBURY

Dating from the 12th century, St. Mary's Church is a fine medieval church. It has 8 bells, of which six come from the 18th century.

ST. PAUL'S CHURCH

Built in the classical style in the first half of the 19th century, St. Paul's is another example of the architectonic style of John Forbes, the creator of Pittville Pump Room.

ST. PETER'S CHURCH, LECKHAMPTON

The oldest church in Leckhampton dates back to the 14th century. With its slender steeple, it stands in the heart of the old Leckhampton village. Memorial to Edward Wilson can be found in the grounds.

ST. PETER'S CHURCH

St. Peter's Church was built in the mid-19th century. It is a lovely building in a neo-Norman style designed by the architect Samuel Whitfield Daukes.

CHURCH OF ST. PHILIP AND ST. JAMES, THE PARK

Originally a daughter church of St. Peter's Church in Leckhampton, Church of St. Philip and St. James was built in the mid-19th century to cope with the increasing population of Leckhampton.

ST. PHILIP & ST. JAMES CHURCH, UP HATHERLEY

The church of St. Philip and St. James was built in the late 1880s to replace an old structure which was destroyed about 200 years before.

WARDEN HILL URC

Warden Hill United Reformed Church is a modern building, built in the late 1950s. It is situated next to children's play area and serves the community of Warden Hill.
